Do It Yourself

You may qualify for rebates by upgrading to energy-efficient insulation. The Insulation Rebates chart below notes the areas in homes covered by rebates.

After you install new energy-efficient insulation, apply for your rebate.

  1. Click on the Apply Online button to start your rebate application.
  2. Fill out the application: have handy your DTE account number house and rebate information and a copy of the original receipt or invoice.
  3. Review and submit your application.

Get your rebate in 4 to 6 weeks.

Hire a Contractor

If you prefer to have a licensed contractor install your new insulation, search our directory to find participating contractors. These contractors do not represent or work for DTE. If interested, follow the steps below.

  1. Using our Find a Contractor directory, start a search and then browse the results list of contractors. Contact one or more to arrange a home visit.
  2. The contractor will advise you on improving your home insulation, submit a bid and review it with you.
  3. The contractor you select will install the insulation and then submit a rebate application for you.
  4. Get your rebate in 4 to 6 weeks.

You qualify for a rebate if DTE is the primary provider of your home’s heat (most DTE natural gas and natural gas/electric combination customers qualify). Premise eligibility is limited to single family homes. Single family homes are defined as 2 or less connected units. Each unit must be individually metered for natural gas and electric and each unit must have its own heating, cooling and water heating equipment. New construction homes do not qualify.

Window Tips

Know the U-factor

The U-factor is used to express the insulation value of windows. The lower the U-factor, the better. In Michigan, we look for windows with a U-factor less than or equal to 0.30.
