Energy Efficiency Assistance Program (EEA)

If you'd like to make your home more energy efficient, but have limited income, you may qualify for help through DTE Energy's Energy Efficiency Assistance Program.
A more energy efficient home uses less energy and can help lower your monthly bill. The services listed below are available to qualified customers through approved weatherization agencies, nonprofit organizations and local governments. Eligible customers who wish to take advantage should contact a participating organization as soon as possible, as funding is limited and some organizations have waitlists.

Do I qualify for the program?
To qualify for the Energy Efficiency Assistance Program, your household income must be at or below 200% percent of the federal poverty guidelines. You must also meet other guidelines based on the Department of Energy Weatherization Assistance Program. Your active enrollment in the Low Income Self Sufficiency Plan or other state low-income public assistance programs (SNAP, WIC, etc.) also qualifies you for the program.

In addition to income qualifications, your account must be active and in good standing at the time of service. Services are based on funding availability, your gas and electric service, and specifics of the equipment in your home. For other terms and conditions please speak to a participating organization.

Test and Tune-Up Program

A specially trained technician will perform a thorough cleaning and tune-up of your natural gas furnace or boiler. These steps may help your heating system run more efficiently and last longer. You will also receive a programmable thermostat and other energy-saving improvements.

ENERGY STAR® Refrigerator Replacement Program

If your primary refrigerator was manufactured before December 2000 or is found inefficient based upon testing, you may be eligible to receive a new ENERGY STAR®-certified refrigerator to replace your existing one. Customers in multi-unit buildings also are eligible.

EEA Home Performance Rebate Program

Energy Efficiency Assistance
A certified professional auditor will perform a comprehensive home energy audit. The auditor will identify ways to improve energy efficiency in your home and install energy-saving products. These may include:

 

  • Energy efficiency lighting
  • Insulation
  • Air sealing (to reduce air leakage from the home)
  • High efficiency heating equipment
  • Programmable thermostats (for gas heat)
  • Hot water-saving devices
